Pack Rat

Hola :)  I debated coming up with a systematic plan of attack that would make this blog formulated and organized…but then I remembered that I would be the one writing this, so I scrapped that idea.  My plan?  Write it as it comes.  That being said….

Phase 1…packing

I am an abhorrent packer, ask Ami, my go to girl for every trip I’ve ever taken.  Knowing your weakness is the first step to making it strength.  So I went to the USAC website to find a packing guide.  I found a lovely article about “packing half full” that made all kinds of philosophical connections to the half full you that will travel and have room to fill up with the culture.  Sounds groovy man.  Reading on, the list began to make me suspicious.

  1. 7 shirts you can throw away when you’re done
  2. A pair of slacks-perfect for ANY dressy occasion
  3. 2 dress shirts

This will clothe me for 4 months?!?  Wait a second…this sounds rather…male.  Reading on...

           4. Football to exchange “cultural experiences”

My eyebrows were so high they almost flew off my forehead.  Scroll to the bottom:
 “Best of luck!” –Steve
boys name if I ever read one.  I’m not a Gucci girl…but I’m still a girl.  No offense Steve, but I’m pretty sure your Y chromosome puts you on an elevated level of packer-dom that I in my abundance of estrogen will never be able to achieve.   It’s time to look to a more…practical….source.  I’m not going to lie; this is going to be tough.  I’ll keep you posted.

  3. If my humble opinion matters, you could do well to listen to Steve. Seeing your Blazer when you left Berea I think you could pack a lot lighter and well, you'll have to.

  5. I am not sure if this is going to show my user ID or not, but just in case....Hi my name is Tyler. I am glad to see that you made this blog and I hope you do update it every once in a while. I do not really like your picture that much because you aren't smiling. However, I know how hard it is to fake a smile, I am not sure I can do it. The layout is nice. It makes me feel like I am in Costa Rica, although I have no idea what Costa Rica is like, but this is how I would imagine it. Victoria is right, you do have a very distinct writing voice, which is nice. You should post photos, too. Too bad you never came to play soccer, those skills will probably come in handy while you are away. I would keep a journal while away if I were you. I did and I am very happy because I did. However, don't spend too much time writing because you have to do stuff to write about! I would suggest you go snorkling. I have always wanted to do that. I think it would be awesome to look for seashells near the seashore. Plus you would see the ecosystem that lives there. You will have a great time. I hope you send me a postcard. I would like that. Eat every type of food you can, that is what I would do.

Right now I am eating a big bowl of fruit, yogurt, and granola that has dried bananas and walnut in it. I think this is probably my favorite food so far. Franceska is doing great, too. She will be done with her research in 3 weeks and then I think she and I are going to travel a little bit before school starts which I am REALLY excited about. I know you aren't gone yet, but I felt compelled to reply.
